Goal 1:  Every California public school offers the School Breakfast Program.
Goal 2:  All California students participate in the School Breakfast Program.
Goal 3:  Every school breakfast promotes health and appeals to students.

Directly connecting local farms to local schools can help make breakfast at school more fun, fresh and better than before. Studies show the School Breakfast Program significantly increases kids’ consumption of fruit and vegetables. However, kids are still not meeting their full five-a-day fruit and vegetable recommendation and the increase in juice consumption may be linked to the increase in childhood obesity.

By linking up with farm to school projects, schools can increase the amount, variety and quality of fresh foods available for lunch and breakfast. By adding a fruit a day to kids’ breakfast, children are far more likely to meet their nutritional needs and to develop, healthy life-long eating patterns.
